Ensuring Maritime Safety: Ravebo's Expert Calibration of the Georim 15PPM Alarm System
Georim Service Agent Visit
As an authorized Georim service agent, our service engineer visited M.V. "NS Energy", an SCF ship in the port of Dunkirk. Ravebo was asked to perform the annual calibration/certification of the Georim 15PPM alarm system. The “NS Energy” is a bulk carrier, which at that time was transporting iron ore from Canada. After its visit to Dunkirk, the ship sailed to Russia, so it was logical to have the relevant work carried out in Northern Europe. Our service engineer had all the necessary spare parts with him, including a completely new unit (just in case) so that a full calibration certificate could be issued.
Functioning of the 15PPM Alarm System
The 15PPM alarm system is an essential part of the equipment, as it ensures that no contaminated bilge water is pumped overboard. The owner of M.V. “NS Energy” had specifically requested the calibration to be performed at 5:00 PM. The system works by taking samples of the bilge water flowing through the discharge pipe. If the system detects an oil concentration higher than 5PPM, it shuts off the discharge pipe. This prevents polluted water from being pumped into the sea.
Traveling During the COVID-19 Pandemic
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ravebo's service engineers try to travel by car wherever possible; this minimizes the risks as much as possible. Visiting ships is a challenge for our service engineers at this time. With all the restrictions in force, all the necessary paperwork had to be arranged to travel through the Netherlands, Belgium, and France at night.
Logistical Advantage Near Rotterdam
Ravebo has a huge logistical advantage as they are located near Rotterdam. All major ports of Northwest Europe are accessible by car within eight hours. An additional advantage is that the service engineers can take all the equipment, tools, and spare parts with them when they go on board. So that they can use these parts if necessary. Our HR department arranges for the necessary papers and exemptions to operate across borders. It also ensures that our service engineers are regularly and according to government guidelines tested.
